Buying a television is quite a bit more complex than it used to be. Now you need an HD flat TV review to understand what you're even looking at. Used to be you could just go into a store, look at the wall of TV's then whip out the old credit card. Now, there are a lot more decisions to make. Not only do you have to pick the manufacturer (which you had to do before). But you also need to really understand what you'll be using the TV for, what resolution you want, and what technology you want to buy (plasma or LCD, for instance). If you're confused by all of this, then don't worry. Just keep reading and this HD flat TV review article will straighten you out.

Let's talk about all of these issues in order, starting with the manufacturers.

There are four main manufacturers of HD flat TV's, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and Toshiba. There are others, but these are by far the big four. What's good for us consumers is that these companies are currently very competitive. That makes prices go down, also that's what offers us more selection and more and more technology in the television. Of course, this selection also makes buying a TV harder. (Which is, of course, why you need an HD flat TV review!) Of these four, Samsung might be the company that offers the most choice, but in terms of quality and price, you probably won't go wrong with either of the four.

Of greater importance is understanding what you want the TV for. Do you just want to look at cable TV and also DVD's? Or do you need to do more with it, like play videos? How many other devices do you want to feed into your TV? Make sure the model you buy has the correct number and types of plugs!

Another very important issue to cover in any HD flat TV review is resolution. After all, you want your new purchase to be "HD", don't you? Well, not all TV's made today are high-definition. What you need to know to understand that is the number of lines that get scanned by the TV when it creates the picture. The possible numbers are 480, 720, and 1080. Now, there's more to scanning than just the number of lines scanned. But this will at least give you a start.

Finally, probably the biggest question that any HD flat TV review needs to answer is should you buy an LCD TV, or a plasma TV. Both have their pluses and minuses. LCD TV's are slower and sometimes have problems with ghosting on the screen. But they're also lighter, which means they are easier to hang on the wall. Plasma TV's are heavier, but their picture can sometimes look more brilliant or cinematic.
